Vava'u - where life is still easy
Somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean is a group of islands called Vava’u, part of the Kingdom of Tonga. These beautiful islands are where every year between June and October a big group of Humpback whales resides, having traveled from the Antarctica all the way to Tonga, to birth and raise their calves.
Tonga is one of the few locations in the world where, with local professional guides, you can still swim with these magnificent creatures.
End of July 2014 we went all the way from Singapore to Tonga to do exactly that and despite slightly rougher conditions and cold water we had an amazing experience swimming with the whales.
